So, I have to admit something….
(Dramatic Pause)
I auditioned for American Idol yesterday at the Georgia Dome. I got up at 3:30 in the morning and arrived at the Dome at 4:30. The line was wrapped around the whole arena….AT 4:30 AM! Nevertheless, the crowd was stoked and ready to audition, all ready to become the next American Idol. We finally made our way inside at about 8:00. Spent the next 7 hours waiting in my section to audition. I was there alone, so I really got to just sit there, take in the moment and just think.
Several thoughts popped in my head during that 7 (11 total hours) hour period of sitting inside the dome:
“Wow.. I can’t believe that I’m sitting here auditioning for American Idol”
“Where is Simon Cowell?”
“It’s 8:00 in the morning and that guy is eating a hot dog and fries!? That’s stupid”
“It’s 9:00 in the morning and I’m eating a hot dog and fries!? Hmm.. This thing is pretty good”
“I really don’t think I have a shot at making it, but I’ve always wanted to try out… why am I waiting for this long though if I don’t have a shot?”
(BIG PICTURE THOUGHT AND POINT OF THE BLOG)
“Wow. Those people really think that they are good don’t they? Seriously, they stink.”
I don’t mean that thought in a mean way. I really don’t. I’m not saying that I’m amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but there were some people there that could not carry a tune and they thought that they were the next Chris Allen. They sat in the restrooms rehearsing. They walked the aisles “warming up their voices”. They didn’t realize that they were annoying everyone around them. They thought they were good though. They didn’t think that there was anything wrong with there singing. There was absolutely no chance that they would ever be a contestant on the competition.
Isn’t this how so most people think about themselves spiritually though? They think that they are good people and that there is nothing wrong with them? Most people think that since they’ve never killed someone before or cheated on their wife or stolen anything that they are a good person in God’s eyes. When we look at God’s word he tells us “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”. This means that we are all bad people. Not just the people who have murdered someone, or robbed a bank, done drugs or raped a girl, but also the people who cheated on an exam, thought a bad thought about their friend, disobeyed their parents, told a little white lie or gotten drunk. We’re all guilty. Every one of us are. We’ve all fallen short of God’s glory. On our own, we have no chance of having a relationship with God or getting to Heaven.
There is good news though, God sent His Son, Jesus, to come to Earth and live a life with no mistakes. He never sinned once!! He received unfair treatment though. He endured a death on the cross, which He did not deserve, to die for our sins so that we could have a relationship with Him. Can you believe that!? The God of the universe, loved us so much that He came to die for us!? He took our punishment. All you have to do is admit to God that you are a sinner. Acknowledge it. Then acknowledge that you believe that Jesus lived a sinless life and died on the cross for your sins. Ask God to forgive you of those sins and things that you’ve done wrong. Then acknowledge that Jesus is the only way to Heaven and His death is sufficient for all we need. Thank Jesus for dying for You. That’s it. Don’t be fooled though. If you just “pray a prayer” and don’t really believe this stuff, it’s useless. A relationship with Christ means that you are born again. That means that you have a new life and that your old life is behind you. This should result in a life change. A life that desires to honor God and bring Him glory.
If you have begun a relationship with Christ, I would love to hear about it so I can pray for you and see if I can help guide you in the right direction. Email me at BryanAuton@gmail.com .
*BTW I did not make it on the show.

Guess your singing is not as good as you playing the guitar. Pray to God he allows you to be a good singer so you can sing to your daughter
